Interested in radical democracy? Curious about the Participedia Schools we’re always talking about? Do we have the event for you! Join us for our next Teaching Café on May 16th, as we revisit last year’s Participedia School and discuss pedagogies of radical democracy, within the classroom and beyond!
Jointly hosted by SFU CERi and Participedia, Participedia School 2023 centred the theory and practice of radical democracy. Themes explored included power and disruption, Indigenous governance, care, creativity, related research methods, and more (check out the summary report and video here). But how did radical democracy impact and shape the classroom, beyond the content itself? What did the pedagogic methods of radical democracy used look like? Our next Teaching Café will explore these questions and more as we discuss the reimagined democratic classroom by reflecting on experiences past as we prepare for projects ahead. What better way to prepare for Participedia School 2024?
This Teaching Café will feature the core organizing team of Participedia School 2023 on Radical Democracy, including Joanna Ashworth, Stuart Poyntz and Tara Mahoney of Simon Fraser University’s Community Engaged Research Initiative (CERi), with Etienne Cardin Trudeau of the University of Toronto. Faculty and students of the summer school are invited to attend and participate, along with all interested academics, students and practitioners interested in radical democracy. There will be ample time for dialogue and engagement with these important themes during the session.
Hope to see you there!
